Most dashcams are sold in a box and left dangling from the cigarette lighter. We hardwire it into the fuse box, hide the cable behind the trim, and set it up so it records the moment you start the car.

You can, and plenty of people do. The problem is the cable. A dashcam hanging off the lighter socket dangles across the dash, comes loose, and stops recording without you noticing. We hardwire it to the fuse box so it starts with the car and the cable never shows.
Not the way we fit it. We wire it to a circuit that switches off with the ignition. If you want parking mode, that needs a different connection and we will explain the battery trade off honestly before you decide.
Some models can, with the right wiring. It draws power while parked, so it depends on your battery and how often you drive. We will tell you whether it makes sense for your car.
